My relationship with art...

It started with me wanting the best handwriting in my class
then making crafty birthday cards for my mum
I even started writing short stories in primary school
in secondary school like 2009, I started doodling
I loved to doodle
one of my fond memories is doodling hand in hand with Muhammed,
the boy I had a crush on at the time
I've always been a romantic
I drew for my final yearbook and began sketching
at this point, I knew I was inclined to art
Then premed came and I bought my first sketch pad (2015)
it became my favorite hobby
if you check any of my notebooks, I promise you'd see about 20 sketches
and doodles I've made
I still think I'm attracted to creative souls
I started painting in 2017
after the hurricane
I bought painting supplies because I thought I'd be good at it
painting just seemed easier and cooler than sketches
the other reason was I wanted to impress the guy I liked at the time
before leaving the island I had to give all my art away
I didn't have any baggage space plus I was at a point in life where I had little
attachment to material things
I gave my paintings to my friends which they still keep with them
I still gift my friends with my art
I started using canvas in 2020
it made me feel professional like I was van Gogh
I got the opportunity to gallery sit for an art place called the bakery in 2021
that experience opened my eyes to the possibilities of what an artist could be
Every month I'd sit and watch interesting people show their unique artwork.

and now for me, art feels more like a calling or purpose than anything else.
